illume has access to a specialised pool of resources with a unique set of experience. illume people are passionate about their work, which they execute with a professional and enthusiastic attitude. Here is a selection of some of the key people at illume.
Matthew Townend - Managing Director
Matthew formed illume Consulting (previously called Island Telcom) in June 2005. Matthew has a unique set of senior Sales, Marketing and leadership skills that have helped many of illumes clients. His recent experience has included leading major projects in the VOIP, FMC, Channel Development and content delivery arenas. He is also recognised as a thought leader in these spaces and is often found speaking at industry event and forums.
Prior to forming illume Matthew was Marketing Director at Inclarity. Inclarity were one of the first business VOIP providers in Europe. Prior to joining Inclarity Matthew was MCI's Senior Director for Partnering & Solutions in Europe. During this period Matt was also European Managing Director for Digex an MCI owned subsidiary.
Matthew’s career has always been based around new markets. In his early career he launched the first magazine about internet, and then joined PIPEX who were the first commercial provider of internet access. Whilst at PIPEX he was responsible for establishing PIPEX Dial as one of the market leading internet dial services. Later in his career at UUNET (who purchased PIPEX), he was the Product Director responsible for launching one of the first multinational VPN services in Europe.
Matthew’s experience and passion for developing new market purveys the whole company and the work illume undertakes.
Tony Razzell
Tony specializes in developing core pricing strategies, building systems and tools to manage the sales process from quote to bill and management reporting tools and analysis. He worked on contracts at Telstra, Viatel, T-Systems, Inclarity and Packet Exchange covering everything from recovering lost revenue, re-negotiating supplier contracts and creating complete pricing strategies, sales tools and processes. Specifically Tony has developed both quoting/pricing and ROI tools for convergence clients.
Tony has over 10 year’s experience of Commercial Management and Pricing in the telecoms arena at director and VP level. In roles at MCI, FLAG Telecom and KPNQwest. He especially understands the requirements in building commercial strategies for products that are new to a market.
Wendy Townend - Company Secretary & Office Manager
Wendy plays an important role, coordinating with project teams and customers and ensuring all the commercial elements of the business run smoothly.
Wendy's career was based in the Insurance underwriting industry, and she brings some of the organisation and discipline used in her previous career, to ensure the office and customer projects run smoothly.
Daniel Soar
Daniel started working with illume in the summer of 2006, and has played an important role on projects in the Fixed mobile convergence market, as well as the VOIP and channel development spaces.
Daniel has a strong product management and channel background. He was UK product marketing manager for UUNET and MCI for many years, launching a number of new IP services into the UK market. Also while at MCI Daniel was also involved in the development of strategic partner relationships.
He combines this strong IP experience with recent voice and FMC experience he gained running product management at a UK Telecommunications reseller. The combination of experience at both a reseller and service provider is valuable to illume and its clients, who are looking at distribution channels.
Dave Millett - Associate
Dave Millett is an experienced Telecoms Consultant with over 25 years of experience within the Industry. His has held senior European Marketing and Business Development positions with Avaya and Nortel where he also held responsibility for services based product introductions and channel programmes. He was also Operations and Marketing Director for Inclarity one of the UK's largest Hosted VOIP suppliers.
He started his career with BT, where he qualified as an accountant and gained his MBA. He then worked as a Senior Consultant for Price Waterhouse before joining Siemens as Customer Service Director of one of their software subsidiaries. He has also published articles on change management, emotional intelligence and contributed to books on the successful adoption of new technologies.
Dave has worked on a number of projects with illume combining his great knowledge as well as his practical experience of selling and advising end customers in the market. Dave also runs a company called Equinox, which provides consultancy services to the industry and large corporate customers and also assists SME companies by acting as an independent no fee broker to find the best deals in the marketplace on both existing and new technologies.
